Police appeal follows assault

Police have arrested two teenagers following an incident in which a boy was seriously assaulted.

Officers were called to Parkwood Green at 1.30pm yesterday (23 July) following a report that a 13-year-old boy had suffered a head injury as a result of an assault. He was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital for treatment and later transferred to a London hospital where his condition is described as serious.

Officers were swift to launch an investigation that led to the arrest of two boys, aged 13 and 14-years-old. They were arrested on suspicion of GBH and are currently in custody at Medway police station.

The investigation is being led by Detective Inspector Mike Morgan, who said: ‘We know that there were lots of people in the area when this incident occurred. Officers have already taken information from many of those present but we are still asking anyone who thinks they may know something that will assist us with our enquiries to come forward.

‘If you can help police, please contact detectives at Medway police station.’

Chief Inspector Des Keers, added: ‘This is a rare incident and my officers work hard to keep young people in Medway safe. Currently the ‘Safer Summer’ campaign is underway in the area and this involves both extra officers on the street at key times and a drive to promote activities for youngsters over the holiday period.

‘If you would like to know more about how you can stay safe and enjoy your summer speak with your local neighbourhood officer who can give you crime prevention advice and guidance in relation to youth clubs and activities. To find out who polices your neighbourhood log onto the Kent Police website and use the postcode search facility.’
